Pacman: My Story of Hope, Resilience, and Never-Say-Never Determination’ to Hit Shelves on Nov. 19

The world’s best boxer releases his autobiography on November 19.
Our Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao, who just snared his eight world title last Sunday, will open his colorful life and share his journey from being a poor barrio kid to one of the richest athletes in the world through his autobiography, “Pacman: My Story of Hope, Resilience, and Never-Say-Never Determination,” which will be released on Nov. 19, 2010.
Published by Dunham Books, the book chronicles Pacman’s life struggles, from his days as a teenager selling practically everything on the streets just to make end meets for his family, and how he hurdled them through hard work and determination to reach the top of boxing world.
It also portrays Pacquiao as a family man, a deeply religious person who loves charity works, and a virtual jack-of-all-trades, juggling boxing with forays into acting, singing, and now politics.
Now available for pre-order online via Amazon, the 240-page Pacman book will soon be available in 10 languages, including the Philippines’ primary language, Filipino.
Here’s an excerpt from Manny’s Autobiography:
DESPITE HIS FAME and financial success, Manny is just Manny— a regular guy who still remembers his roots. During the holiday season, he personally passes out gifts to the poor. For his title fights, he gives over half a million dollars worth of tickets to his childhood friends so they can “join in” his fights. Manny simply feels blessed to be able to give back, and nothing could possibly make him more genuinely happy than to help those who were a part of his roots and early suffering. So it is therefore not surprising that he has given himself to his fellow Filipinos by serving as a Congressman in the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing his home province of Sarangani. He is the first active professional boxer to become an elected public official, and Manny is certainly one of the most influential people in the Philippines today.

Bowler Biboy Rivera Wins 1st Gold for the Philippines at the 16th Asiad

Bowler Engelberto “Biboy” Rivera captured the Philippines’ first gold medal in the 16th Asian Games.

Biboy had a total 1414 pinfalls to win the gold medal in the Men’s Singles event.
Another pinoy, Frederick Ong who scored 1390 pinfalls, captured the bronze in the same event. A bowler from Kuwait won the silver.
This sums our medal count to 4 including the two bronze medals won by Ronnie Steeve Vergara and Charlea Lagaras in cha cha cha and paso double events of dancesports Sunday afternoon.
The Philippines’ 1 gold and 3 bronze medals currently placed us at no. 11 among 22 countries which at least won a medal. We are one notch behind Malaysia (the best performing Southeast Asian country so far), which is currenty at no. 10 with 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
China, as expected, is still in the lead of the leaderboard with 71 gold medals followed by South Korea with 22, and Japan with 15.
The Philippine team hopes to improve the 4-6-9 gold-silver-bronze haul of 2006 in Doha, Qatar.
